In Oaxaca, craftsmanship is art at its highest form; it is the expression of oneself and a tradition that has pre-Hispanic roots. Each pattern, symbol, and even color represents something in the rich Zapoteco culture. Tapetes of Teotitlan provide individuals with a story, a history, and centuries of perfected craftsmanship. Alebrijes begun in the 1930's as a result of a dream, and that dream gave birth to fantastic animals that are rich and vibrant in colors and symbols. Then we have Barro Negro, Rojo, and Verde; all which have a tedious process but worthwhile because the end result will have you in awe. Felipe Ramirez
As a native of Arrazola, Felipe grew-up practicing how to carve and sand wood. He began to work in one of the local workshops and that was where he continued to practice his craft and it is also where he met his lovely wife. Felipe got married at the young age of 17, and at the age of 19 him and his wife started a family. Two daughters and about Twenty years later they now have their own workshop where they also teach students the process of creating life from the "magical" wood known as copal.
Oaxacan Craftsmanship
Oaxaca is well known in Mexico for its diverse high-caliber craftsmanship. "Culture Seekers," tend to flood in throughout the year to get a taste of richness that this Southern Mexican State has to offer. Culture tourism is the primary facet for globalization in Oaxaca and, thanks to its abundance in craftsmen, it is far-reaching. Craftsmen are rarely made in Oaxaca, they are born; it is a way of life that is passed on from generation to generation. It is a passion that most craftsmen carry deep within them and it is apparent in their work. We invite everyone to step into a world where ones own imagination is the limit.

This chess set is the first of its kind. With about 10 months of anticipation, Margarito added his final touches to this master set. This is an innovative custom made style by a master craftsman from, San Martín Tilcajete. With 39 pieces it is bound to captivate your attention one way or another. It is sure to standout next to any other Alebrije. One side represents San Martins Alebrijes Carnaval and the other represents Dia De Los Muertos.
